Veterinary Client Patient Relationship
- From the AVMA, a VCPR is the basis for interaction among veterinarians, their clients, and their patients and is critical to the health of animals. It is based on trust, and is essential for the veterinarian's ability to make medical decisions for the patients. A VCPR is established during normal business hours as a wellness visit where the veterinarian can ask questions regarding the husbandry of the animals, perform physical exams on said animals, and acquire enough information to make decisions on the medical care of said animals. An emergency visit does not establish a VCPR. Current clients are those that have a valid VCPR. For Grau Veterinary Services, timing plays a role in having a VCPR. Any client that has not been seen for a wellness visit during normal business hours during the 6 months before expected services are noted to not have a valid VCPR, and are categorized as not current clients.
Emergencies
- Emergencies are only provided to patients with a valid VCPR
- If you are calling about an animal on your property not previously seen by Dr. Grau, there is no VCPR present and therefore no emergency services will be provided
- Just pointing an animal out to Dr. Grau during a visit does not establish care. A minimum of an annual physical exam must be done to establish and maintain a VCPR for EACH animal.
- If you need emergency services, you must call and leave a voicemail
- Missed calls without a voicemail will NOT be returned
- This area of the panhandle does not have other livestock veterinarians, therefore planning for emergencies is essential
- If Dr. Grau cannot provide emergency services, please be ready to haul your animals to a hospital
- Ruminant patients: University of Florida Large Animal Hospital in Gainesville, FL or Auburn University in Alabama
- Swine: University of Florida Large Animal Hospital in Gainesville, FL or Auburn University in Alabama

- If you have an emergency, CALL EARLY
- It is likely you will have to wait a 1-4 hours before Dr. Grau arrives to your farm
